چکیده

In the local access network expansion problem we need to expand a given network (with tree topology) due to traffic demand increase. We can expand the network either by increasing the capacity of its edges and/or by installing equipments that concentrate the traffic of several demand points. This problem has received some attention in the literature. Here, we view the problem as an extension of the well-known capacitated minimum spanning tree problem. We adapt two types of flow-based formulations, aggregated and disaggregated formulations and present some valid inequalities to improve the linear programming bounds of the previous formulations. Computational results from a set of tests with 100 and 200 nodes that compare the lower bounds given by the different models, new and old, are reported. Our results demonstrate that the flow-based models are worth trying for these problems. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Distribution Network Expansion Using Hybrid SA/TS Algorithm

Optimal expansion of medium-voltage power networks is a common issue in electrical distribution planning. Minimizing total cost of the objective function with technical constraints and reliability limits, make it a combinatorial problem which should be solved by optimization algorithms. This paper presents a new hybrid simulated annealing and tabu search algorithm for distribution network expan...

Cooperative network flow problem with pricing decisions and allocation of benefits: A game theory approach

Several real problems in telecommunication, transportation, and distribution industries can be well analyzed by network flow models. In revenue management, pricing plays a primary role which increases the profit generated from a limited supply of assets. Pricing decision directly affects the amount of service or product demand. Hence, in traditional maximum flow problem, we assume that the dema...

Optimal Reconfiguration of Distribution Network for Power Loss Reduction and Reliability Improvement Using Bat Algorithm

In power systems, reconfiguration is one of the simplest and most low-cost methods to reach many goals such as self-healing, reliability improvement, and power loss reduction, without including any additional components. Regarding the expansion of distribution networks, communications become more complicate and the number of parameters increases, which makes the reconfiguration problem infeasib...

A node rooted flow-based model for the local access network expansion problem

In the local access expansion problem we need to expand a given tree network by increasing the capacity of the edges or by installing concentrating devices in some nodes of the network, in order to satisfy the increase in node demands. It was shown in [4] that the problem can be viewed as an extension of the well-known Capacitated Minimum Spanning Tree Problem (CMSTP) and two flowbased models (...

Performance Improvement of Expanded Integrated Local Area Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)

In Local Area Networks (LAN) connected together by bridges, flow control and smooth traffic in the network is very important. However, congestion at bridges can cause intensive loss of received frames. In addition, the received frames are thrown away and have to be retransmitted by the source station, which causes more congestion and massive reduction in the overall network throughput. The netw...
